Trainings on Arduino and OpenStreetMap

Trainings on Arduino and OpenStreetMap with high school students have begun!

During the 2020/2021 period, 16 trainings for each field will be held where Arduino will be presented by using the simulator app TinkerCad, as well as editing on OpenStreetMap will be taught.

The trainings will focus on creating experiments with electronics by students by using microcontrollers, as well as editing on OpenStreetMap.

These trainings are being held within the ASSET project by Kosova Education Center – KEC.

Digitized books platform is ready!

books.flossk.org is a platform that primarily provides opportunities for readers and scholars of the period 1945-1990 to have easy access to the resources of the time. In addition, the platform aims to provide an open and scalable model for the digitization of publications that are hard to reach for the public.

Books on this platform were scanned and edited by groups of volunteers and young students during workshops held with FLOSSK. Currently, the platform has the first 11 books from the 50s written by: Beqir Musliu, Asen Kavaev, Anton Pashku, Rexhep Qosja, Martin Camaj, Adem Demaçi, Anton Çetta, etc.

Other publications of that period are expected to be added on books.flossk.org to create a complete platform where books can be read easily and for free!

This project was made possible by the Culture for Change program. The project is funded by the European Union, managed by the European Union Kosovo, and implemented by Qendra Multimedia and Goethe-Institut.

Online Book Platform

Within the Culture for Change program, FLOSSK has held workshops for scanning and editing Kosovo newspapers from the 90s together with a number of young volunteers and students who have gained knowledge of digital technology as well as gained digital material editing and archiving skills.

During the project, a semi-automatic scanner was built, which facilitated the scanning process and which will be used by readers and researchers even after the completion of the project.

The online platform with prepared publications will be launched on October 1, 2020, and will contain old publications that are accessible through an open model.

This project was made possible by the Culture for Change program. The project is funded by the European Union, managed by the European Union Kosovo, and implemented by Qendra Multimedia and Goethe-Institut.

FLOSSK & Open Labs Webinars

FLOSSK & Open Labs Webinars

As coronavirus happens the impact is being felt by everyone, and Open Source communities, despite the good spirit that characterizes them, are not being spared — but the show must go on!

With both Open Source Conference Albania (OSCAL’20)(https://oscal.openlabs.cc/) and Software Freedom Kosova (SFK) ( https://sfk.flossk.org/) affected during the past few weeks by being postponed, FLOSSK and Open Labs Hackerspace have joined efforts to organize a series of webinars covering different topics related to free open source software, online privacy tools, anti-censorship tools, and various technical workshops helping beginners gain new skills. A short description of each of the topics introduced so far can be found here: https://flossk.org/event-category/webinar/.

With the concept now proven, more webinars, group discussions, short presentations, and short hackathons will be held during the upcoming weeks. The set up is quite open and everyone can share their ideas with us and those interested can host their own sessions in English or Albanian.

You can check the scheduled events here (https://cloud.openlabs.cc/…/4zWFbX4LgcFbJF…/dayGridMonth/now) or at forum.openlabs.cc where we share more detailed information on each of the sessions. This calendar is constantly being updated with new events. You can also [import the calendar] (webcals://cloud.openlabs.cc/remote.php/dav/public-calendars/4zWFbX4LgcFbJFm8/?export) for more convenience.

As always, attendance to those webinars, as with all of our events is free (as in free beer).
See something that you like, join us here: m.flossk.org/webinar
You can join us by hosting your own session. If you have a topic in mind or a skill you want to share, we would love to have you as a guest speaker. Just remember, your sessions topic should be related to FLOSS, open knowledge, or open culture in general, or in online privacy and anti-censorship tools.
See something that is missing? Shoot us an email at [email protected] or [email protected] to submit your presentation.

The Open Source world is well-positioned to weather this crisis, with several tools that facilitate remote collaboration and long time engagement in communities with no borders. We are happy to see interest and engagement in this kind of events and we hope this lays the groundwork for similar initiatives, not just as responses to a crisis but as an effective way of reaching more people.

OpenStreetMap Marathon “Hartëzimi i Sistemit Shëndetësor”

OSM Mapathon “Hartezimi i Sistemit Shendetesor”

Shihemi në Mapathon-at e rradhës
