Travel Massive and FLOSSK are hosting this Sunday a Wikivoyage editathon with the goal of improving touristic information about Kosovo. The event is part of the broader effort to improve tourism in Kosovo.

Wikivoyage is a free web-based travel guide for travel destinations written by people like you. It is a sister project of Wikipedia.

This time we’ll be focusing on the articles in English, but if you can write other major global languages, you are encouraged to help translate. Basic wiki training will be provided in the first hour, so no previous knowledge other than enthusiasm about touristic information is required.

Wiki Loves Monuments is an international photo contest for monuments running this September, organized by Wikimedia globally, as well as FLOSSK in Kosovo and Open Labs Albania.

Cultural heritage is an important part of the knowledge that Wikipedia collects and disseminates. Everybody can contribute images as well as write articles. An image is worth a thousand words, in all languages at once, and enthusiastic people can (re)discover the cultural, historic, and scientific significance of their neighborhoods by uploading photos to Wikimedia.

In 2012, Wikipedia volunteer communities in 35 countries joined this initiative. In 2014 nearly 40 countries all over the world are participating through national contests organized with their national monuments, partners, rules, events and winners.

The organizers – FLOSSK from Kosovo and Open Labs from Albania – through digital access to cultural monuments, want to promote the cultural heritage of the respective countries to the world.

Every national contest, including the ones in Albania and Kosovo, will be able to nominate some of their winning pictures for the international contest. These nominated pictures will be judged by an international jury, which will then award extra prizes to the best images from all participating countries.

The list of monuments of both countries is already published in the official website of the project, including the rules, requirements and the detailed description of this competition at wikilovesmonuments.al. After a month, starting from 1 September, 10 best photos will be selected from each country – Kosovo and Albania. These photos, in December,  will be sent to the international competition and will be judged by the global community.

FLOSSK (flossk.org) in Kosovo and Open Labs (openlabs.cc) in Albania are non-profit organizations, established in order to support, promote and develop, among other things, free access to knowledge and culture, which is similar to the mission of Wikipedia.nIllustration photos:

Prishtina Hackerspace is a co-working open experimentation space established exclusively for technological, educational, cultural and scientific purposes. Prishtina Hackerspace was initiated by FLOSSK members and operates within FLOSSK’s umbrella as an NGO. The aim of the space is to:

– Provide workspace, equipment and other resources for communal use by all members;– Encourage continued and after-school learning through workshops, classes, seminars and mentoring;– Create a safe and open environment for experimentation in technology and art.

If you are a web developer, pc software programmer, app developer, Linux distro packager you have probably heard many complaints from your users about you list of countries and country codes. Most of the complaints come from people not finding their country on the list. For example, Europe has changed a lot in the last two decades. Countries have dissolved and new ones were created. There are changes in Asia, Africa and in South America. The sad fact is that many web sites still list Yugoslavia in their list of countries. Which is not a bad thing because you might use Yugoslavia country code as key for other tables in your database, but not adding the countries is what frustrates people a lot. The irony for websites using old and hardcoded data is because websites are online all the time. They can use a web-service and update the list dynamically or periodically. Websites are not like pc programs or linux distribution which are designed as stand alone solutions. Another complaint is that multilingual websites, phone apps and pc applications show the country list in English only, regardless of what language the user has chosen.

Duke i konsideruar si gazetat ditore me më së shumti përkujtime për të vdekurit, për bazë janë marrë gazetat “Koha ditore” dhe “ Zëri”. Janë analizu shpalljet gjatë periudhës 01 korrik 2013 – 31 tetor 2013.

Në të dhënat përfundimtare kemi marrë parasysh vetëm personat që kanë vdekur gjatë periudhës 1 janar 2000 – 31 tetor 2013. Kjo mostër është e mjaftueshme për me i mbështet konkluzionet që dalin nga ky hulumtim që janë paraqitë në web-faqen www.kumevotu.info. Ky hulumtim vërteton dyshimet paraprake dhe tregon që një numër i konsiderueshëm i personave të vdekur ende gjinden në lista të votimeve dhe, në teori, kanë mundësi votimi.
