TechCamp mbërrin në Kosovë për të ngritur kapacitetet lokale dhe rajonale për të kundërshtuar keqinformimin në Ballkan.
Ambasada e SHBA në Kosovë dhe Byroja për Çështje Arsimore dhe Kulturore (ECA) në bashkëpunim me Free Libre Open Source Software Kosova (FLOSSK) janë duke implementuar ‘’TechCamp Kosova: Kundër Keqinformimit në Ballkan’’.

Qëllimi i TechCamp është rritja e besimit të publikut në shtypin e lirë dhe në institucionet demokratike. Ky program po ashtu do të ngrisë kapacitetin teknologjik të shtypit dhe do të forcojë rrjetet e gazetarisë në rajon, duke i ndihmuar gazetarëve të ndjekin dhe informojnë audiencat e tyre për lajmet e rreme, përdoruesit e rremë, të kundërshtojnë keqinformimin dhe të diskreditojnë këto informacione në platformat e tyre.

Financuar nga ECA në shumën prej 180,000 USD, programi i TechCamp përfshin një punëtori intensive tre-ditore, gjatë së cilës pjesëmarrësit do të mësojnë të identifikojnë keqinformimin dhe kërcënimet e tjera duke përdorur teknologjinë, si dhe do të mësojnë strategji menaxhuese. Pjesëmarrësit do të zhvillojnë ide të projekteve, me të cilat do të konkurojnë për të përfituar financim nga TechCamp. Plani i programit është po ashtu që të financohet një program i shkurtër shkëmbimi në SHBA për pesë pjesëmarrës të TechCamp të cilët do të mësojnë dhe zhvillojnë strategji për të kundërshtuar keqinformimin në institucionet e tyre. TechCamp Kosova do të financojë gjithashtu krijimin e një portali rajonal të lajmeve për të kundërshtuar keqinformimin në Ballkan.

TechCamp Kosovo: Countering Disinformation in the Balkans

TechCamp arrives in Kosovo to build local and regional capacities in the fight against disinformation in the Balkans.
The U.S. Embassy in Pristina and the Bureau of Educational & Cultural Affairs (ECA) in partnership with Free Libre Open Source Software Kosovo (FLOSSK) are hosting “TechCamp Kosovo: Countering Disinformation in the Balkans”.

TechCamp Kosovo aims to increase public confidence in the free press and democratic institutions. The program will also increase the technological capacity of the press and strengthen journalism networks in the region, helping journalists better detect and inform their audiences about fake news, fake accounts, counter disinformation, and discredit that disinformation on their platforms.

Funded by the ECA in the amount of 180,000 USD, the TechCamp program includes a three-day intensive hands-on workshop, where participants will learn to identify disinformation and associated threats using technology, as well as learn coping strategies. Participants will get exposed and develop project ideas, which will compete to receive funding by the TechCamp. The plan is to also fund a short exchange program for five TechCamp participants to travel to the U.S. to learn and develop countering disinformation strategies for their home institutions. TechCamp Kosovo will also fund the establishment of a regional news portal to counter-disinformation in the Balkans.

The three-day TechCamp Kosovo workshop will take place from October 28-30, 2021 in Peja, Kosovo. Individuals from the following countries are eligible to apply for the TechCamp workshop: Kosovo, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Slovenia.

Participant profile for the TechCamp workshop in Peja: We are looking to recruit  45 local and regional journalists, media influencers, academics, political press, and government spokespersons, ranging in age from 30-50 and with moderate to high levels of influence on social and traditional media. Participants are expected to understand and communicate in English as no translation will be provided.

TechCamps are hands-on, participant-driven workshops that connect private sector technology experts with key populations — journalists, non-governmental organizations, civil society advocates, and more — to explore and apply innovative tech solutions to global issues. Each TechCamp includes ongoing impact-oriented programs and efforts to help participants implement their post-workshop projects and stay connected and engaged with each other.

Free Libre Open Source Software Kosova (FLOSSK), a non-governmental organization, is for the second time the U.S. Embassy in Kosovo and ECA’s local partner to implement the TechCamp Kosovo. FLOSSK aims to support, promote and develop free and open source software, open and participatory knowledge, education in information technologies and open society using free communication.

Svrha TechCampa je povećati poverenje javnosti u slobodnu štampu i demokratske institucije. Ovaj program će takođe povećati tehnološki kapacitet štampe i ojačati novinarske mreže u regionu, pomažući novinarima da prate i informišu svoju publiku o lažnim vestima, lažnim korisnicima, suprotstavljaju se dezinformacijama i diskredituju ove informacije na svojim platformama.

Program TechCamp, koji finansira ECA u iznosu od 180.000 američkih dolara, uključuje intenzivnu trodnevnu radionicu tokom koje će učesnici naučiti da identifikuju dezinformacije i druge pretnje koristeći tehnologiju, kao i naučiti strategije upravljanja. Učesnici će razviti projektne ideje, sa kojima će se takmičiti za finansiranje iz TechCamo-a. Programom je predviđeno i finansiranje kratkog programa razmene u SAD za pet učesnika u njihovim institucijama. TechCamp Kosovo će takođe finansirati stvaranje regionalnog novinskog portala za borbu protiv dezinformacija na Balkanu.

Trodnevna TechCamp radionica biće održana 28. i 30. oktobra u Peći na Kosovu. Pojedinci iz ovih zemalja mogu se prijaviti na TechCamp radionicu: Kosovo, Albanija, Bosna i Hercegovina Hrvatska, Crna Gora, Severna Makedonija, Srbija i Slovenija.

This week we continued with the construction of ☁️ air quality and weather stations together with high school students in Kosovo!

📌 The stations were built in the schools of cities of Istog, Gjakova, Viti, Gjilan, while today they are being built in Hani i Elezit and Ferizaj.

This process aims to train students in 🛠️ building stations, 📊 creating and analyzing environmental data, as well as 🏞️ raising general awareness of air quality and climate change.

These stations are being built in partnership with the program “After School Support for Teens” – ASSET funded by USAID Kosovo and implemented by Kosova Education Center – KEC, in partnership with FHI360 and Crimson Capital Corp.

The two winning teams from the human rights hackathon, EqualiTECH, held in December 2020 have developed their products and are launching pilot versions.

🎖️ The teams have received further funding and technical support to develop their products. The two developed products are:

⚫ Safometer (https://safometer.com/) – a digital platform that collects, analyses, and maps data necessary for measuring safety indicators in public spaces. The purpose of the website is to improve the experience of Kosovo’s citizens in public spaces by informing them of potential dangers and guiding them to safe spaces. (in Albanian)

⚫ Needs in Transit (https://needsintransit.com/) – The aim of this webpage is to be a supporting hand to refugees from the Middle East and North Africa, transiting through the Western Balkans. Providing information about hospitals, places to eat, emergency and information services, this webpage helps them meet basic needs while they are transiting. The platform focuses on Albania in the pilot stage, but upon launching developers plan to roll it out to other countries across the Western Balkans.
